Baltimore Orioles Cards: From Cal Ripken Jr. to Jackson Holliday
New Orioles slabs in the shop — Cal Ripken Jr. gem mints from the early '90s plus Colton Cowser autos and a Jackson Holliday rookie insert, and what to look for in each.
We just added a run of Orioles cards that spans more than thirty years of the franchise — two gem-mint Cal Ripken Jr. slabs from the early '90s, a pair of Colton Cowser autographs, and a Jackson Holliday rookie-year insert. If you collect Baltimore, here is what came in and why each one is worth a look.
Cal Ripken Jr.: the Iron Man in gem mint
Ripken is the face of Orioles collecting. He played 2,632 consecutive games, a record that still stands, and went into the Hall of Fame in 2007. His cards from the late '80s and early '90s were printed in huge numbers, which is exactly why high-grade copies are what collectors chase — finding one that survived in perfect shape is the hard part.
The two we just listed:
- 1992 Bowman #400 Cal Ripken Jr. — PSA 10. The 1992 Bowman baseball set is one of the more respected releases of its era, and a PSA 10 on any Ripken from it is a strong display piece for an Orioles collection.
- 1990 Topps Hills Hit Men Cal Ripken Jr. — SGC 10. Hills Hit Men was a small boxed set Topps made for the Hills department store chain. Boxed oddball sets like this are a fun corner of '90s collecting, and an SGC 10 is the top grade on SGC's scale.
When you shop vintage-era gem mints, the grade is the whole story. Compare the population number on the label lookup (PSA and SGC both publish them) to see how many copies have reached that grade.
Colton Cowser: two autographs
Cowser was a first-round pick by the Orioles in 2021, and his signed cards are a way to own an autograph from the current core of the team. We added:
- 2022 Bowman Sterling rookie auto — PSA 10. Bowman Sterling is a premium, autograph-heavy product, so these were made with signatures in mind.
- 2024 Bowman's Best "Best of 2024" Autographs #B24-CC — PSA 10. Bowman's Best uses chrome stock and bright refractor designs; a gem-mint grade on chrome is harder to get than it looks, since the surface shows every scratch.
Both are in PSA holders, so the card has already been authenticated and graded. If the autograph's own grade matters to you, check the label — some slabs grade the card and the signature separately.
Jackson Holliday: Home Field Advantage
Holliday went first overall in the 2022 MLB Draft, and his 2024 cards are the first official rookie cards for one of the most anticipated prospects in years.
- 2024 Topps Update Home Field Advantage #HFA-21 — PSA 9. Home Field Advantage is one of Topps' tougher inserts to pull, with ballpark backgrounds behind each player. It is a step up from a base rookie card without jumping to low-numbered parallel prices.
Raw or graded?
Every card in this group is already slabbed, which takes condition questions off the table:
- Gem mint 10s (PSA or SGC) are the pick if you want the top of the population.
- A PSA 9 is often the sweet spot on modern inserts, where 10s carry a steep premium.
